What Your Photos Reveal About You — EXIF Data Explained
Every digital photo contains invisible metadata called EXIF data. It can include your GPS location, the exact time, your device model, and more. Here is what it is and when you should strip it.
What EXIF data includes
Camera/phone model and manufacturer. GPS coordinates (latitude, longitude, altitude). Date and time the photo was taken. Lens focal length, aperture, shutter speed, ISO. Orientation (portrait or landscape). Software used for editing. Sometimes your name or copyright info.
How to view EXIF data
On Windows: Right-click the image → Properties → Details tab. On Mac: Open in Preview → Tools → Show Inspector. On iPhone: Open in Photos → tap the (i) button. Online: Use any EXIF viewer website. The data is embedded in the file — anyone who downloads your photo can view it.
When to remove EXIF data
Remove EXIF before sharing photos on forums, personal websites, cloud links, or email. Social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter) strip EXIF automatically, but many other sharing methods do not.
Use MiniPx Remove EXIF tool to strip all metadata in one click. Processing happens in your browser — the metadata never leaves your device.
