Remove EXIF Data from Photos — Free, Fast & Private

Every photo taken on a smartphone contains hidden metadata called EXIF data. This includes your exact GPS coordinates, device model, camera settings, and the precise date and time the photo was taken. When you share photos online, this metadata goes with them — and anyone with basic tools can extract it.

MiniPx automatically strips all EXIF data when compressing your images. The Canvas API processes image pixel data only, discarding all metadata in the output. This means the compressed image contains zero location data, zero device information, and zero timestamps.

This is especially important when posting photos on forums, selling items on marketplaces like OLX or Facebook Marketplace, or sharing images with strangers. Your home location, workplace, and daily movement patterns can be extracted from photo metadata by anyone with basic tools like an online EXIF viewer.

Social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook strip EXIF data when you upload, but many other platforms do not — including WhatsApp (when sending as document), email attachments, cloud storage links, and forum uploads. Always strip metadata before sharing through these channels.

Unlike server-based EXIF removers that upload your photos to process them, MiniPx runs entirely in your browser. Your photos never leave your device — the most private way to strip metadata. You can verify this by using MiniPx in airplane mode.

How it works

  1. Upload your photos: Add the images you want to strip metadata from.
  2. EXIF stripping is automatic: The Strip EXIF Data toggle is enabled by default in settings.
  3. Compress and download: Click Compress. The output images contain zero metadata.
  4. Verify if needed: Check the output with any online EXIF viewer to confirm all metadata is removed.

Frequently asked questions

Can someone track my location from a photo?
Yes. If your phone has location services enabled for the camera app, every photo you take embeds your exact GPS coordinates in the EXIF metadata. Anyone who receives the original photo can extract these coordinates and pinpoint where the photo was taken — your home, workplace, or wherever you were. Always strip EXIF data before sharing photos with people you do not fully trust.
What personal information is stored in photo metadata?
EXIF data can include: exact GPS coordinates (latitude and longitude), date and time the photo was taken, device make and model (iPhone 15, Samsung Galaxy S24, etc.), camera settings (aperture, ISO, shutter speed), lens information, software used for editing, and sometimes your name if set in device settings.
What is EXIF data?
EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) is metadata automatically embedded in photos by cameras and smartphones. It was designed to store technical photography information but also captures personal data like location that can be a privacy risk when sharing photos online.
Why should I remove EXIF data before sharing photos?
EXIF data can reveal your location, device, daily patterns, and habits. When sharing photos online — on marketplaces, forums, classified ads, dating apps, or social media — removing metadata protects your privacy and physical safety.
Does MiniPx remove all types of metadata?
Yes. MiniPx processes images through the Canvas API, which only transfers pixel data. All EXIF, IPTC, XMP, and ICC profile data is completely removed from the output. The resulting file contains nothing but the image itself.
Does removing EXIF data affect image quality?
No. EXIF data is separate from the image pixels — it is stored as a header in the file. Removing it has zero impact on how the image looks. The file size may actually decrease slightly since the metadata block is removed.
Do social media platforms strip EXIF data automatically?
Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter strip EXIF metadata when you upload photos. However, many other platforms do not — including WhatsApp (document mode), email attachments, Google Drive/Dropbox shared links, forums, and classified ad sites. Always strip metadata yourself before sharing through any channel.
How do I check if my photo has EXIF data?
On your computer, right-click the image and check Properties (Windows) or Get Info (Mac). Online, use any free EXIF viewer website. After processing with MiniPx, checking the output file will confirm all metadata fields are empty.
Can I remove EXIF data from multiple photos at once?
Yes. Add as many photos as you want to MiniPx and compress them all in batch. EXIF stripping is applied to every file automatically. Download all cleaned files individually or as a ZIP.
Is MiniPx safer than other EXIF removers?
Yes. Most online EXIF removers upload your photos to their servers for processing — which means your personal photos (and their location data) pass through third-party infrastructure. MiniPx processes everything in your browser. Your photos never leave your device.
