The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship sets out its photograph rules as conditions rather than measurements. Its FAQ asks for a white background, an ICAO-compliant recent image of high quality showing clear facial features and eyes without visual distortion such as shadows or reflections, a straight face and neutral expression, and it allows only medical glasses provided they do not cover the eyes, with hats and sunglasses excluded. It adds a condition that appears nowhere else in this catalogue: a new photograph must not be identical to the photograph already held on your record, so reusing the file from your last application is itself a ground for refusal. On size the picture is less tidy. That same FAQ quotes 3.5 by 4.5 centimetres in the context of identity documents, while the 43 by 55 millimetre frame recorded above, exported at 508 by 650 pixels, is the entry-visa shape. Different UAE products appear to use different sizes, so confirm against the specific service you are applying through.
Upscaling is what this format quietly invites. At 0.782 wide to tall it is almost exactly the proportion of the 35 by 45 standard, 0.778, so an existing passport photograph looks correct and nothing warns you, but 508 by 650 pixels is about half as many pixels again as a 413 by 531 file contains. Interpolation supplies the difference and the softness shows first around the eyes, which is where a reviewer looks. Build from the original capture. Recency is the other short fuse: three months here against the six that most documents in this catalogue allow, so a photograph still perfectly valid for a Schengen or American application may already be too old for this one. And take the not-identical rule seriously, because it means a fresh sitting rather than a fresh crop of an old sitting.
