Chinese visa guidance measures the head itself rather than expressing it as a share of the frame, and it measures in two directions: the notice published for visa applicants gives a head width of 15 to 22 millimetres and a chin-to-crown height of 28 to 33 millimetres on a 48 by 33 millimetre print. It is also the only document in this catalogue that puts a number on how far you may tilt, allowing roughly 20 degrees of rotation left or right and 25 degrees up or down, which is a more forgiving rule than the flat no-tilt instruction most authorities give and a more precise one. The shape is the other headline. At 0.688 wide to tall this is the narrowest format here against 0.778 for the 35 by 45 standard, an 11 per cent difference in proportion that no viewer would mistake for rounding, and it exports at 390 by 567 pixels.
Cropping down from a 35 by 45 photograph takes away width you cannot spare, and width is exactly where the ears live; ears are required to be visible. Go back to the original frame. Bytes are the second constraint and there is not much room in the 40 to 120 kilobyte window, only 80 kilobytes between too small and too large, which is now the tightest span in this catalogue, ahead of the 90 kilobytes the Indian and Korean passports allow. Worth adding that the online visa system publishes its digital photograph rules as a permitted range rather than a single size, roughly 354 to 420 pixels wide by 472 to 560 tall, so the 390 by 567 export above sits inside that band rather than being the one accepted value. Eyewear guidance has also moved around between the printed notice and the online checker, the notice allowing clear untinted glasses and some current guidance excluding glasses outright, so removing them is the answer that satisfies both.
