The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports states its photograph rules plainly on its online MRP service, and they are prose rather than a table. It asks for 45 millimetres high by 35 wide against a plain white background, a close-up of your full head and shoulders facing forward, a neutral expression with the mouth closed, and eyes open, visible and free from reflection or glare from glasses. The photograph must not be more than six months old. On file handling DGIP gives one number only, an upload ceiling of 5 megabytes, and says nothing about pixels or resolution; the 40 to 240 kilobyte window recorded above is this tool's target rather than a limit published by DGIP. Its most distinctive line concerns head covering. Where a religious covering is worn it must leave the face visible from the bottom of the chin to the top of the forehead with both edges of the face showing, and it should not itself be white, since a white covering against a white backdrop erases the outline the check depends on.
Two traps, and the second is the one people walk into confidently. First, hair. A head turned a few degrees off square, or hair brought forward over the side of the face, hides the edge of the face that a frontal capture is meant to show, and no crop recovers it. Second, editing. DGIP tells applicants not to work the photograph over in Photoshop or similar software, which puts any beautifying pass, any skin smoothing and any feature reshaping outside the rules. Background replacement and automatic cropping are edits of that same family, so a photograph prepared here is a good way to check framing and a decision you should make knowingly before you submit it. That is your call rather than ours, and the tool is not restricted for Pakistan, but the rule belongs to DGIP and you should read it on their page. On weight, the recorded 40 kilobyte minimum for this document is four times the Indian passport's, which catches anyone recycling a file: squeeze an image down until an Indian form accepts it and it lands under the figure this one starts at. DGIP also names hair alongside eyewear as something that must not cover the eyes, so a fringe brushed forward for the camera is the same defect as a reflective lens.
