AI Background Remover — Free, Fast & Private

MiniPx's AI Background Remover uses two on-device models: MediaPipe Selfie Segmentation (250 KB, instant) for portraits and selfies, and RMBG-1.4 (44 MB, recommended) for everything else — objects, animals, products. Both run entirely in your browser via WebGPU by default; nothing is uploaded unless you are on Pro and switch on Cloud HD for a heavier run.

Privacy here is structural, not a promise: the default pipeline executes entirely on your machine, with no server-side image processing. The one exception is Cloud HD, an opt-in Pro upgrade that sends a single photo to our server for a heavier matting model and deletes it when the run finishes. If your destination wants a solid backdrop rather than transparency — a directory headshot, a marketplace listing — the add a white background page covers the compose step, including an honest free route through any ordinary editor.

For product photos, headshots, e-commerce cutouts, and design work, on-device removal beats the round trip to a remove.bg-style service in latency, privacy, and cost.

Pro also unlocks Cloud HD: switch it on for a single run and a heavier server-side matting model handles the cutout, drawing one run from your monthly allowance (150 a month on Pro Monthly, 200 on Pro Annual, including 10 HD runs) — the photo uploads for that run only and is deleted when it finishes.

Common use cases: product shots for Shopify, transparent profile pictures, design assets for slide decks, family photo cutouts. If the source photo is on the small side, you can also upscale the cutout 2× or 4× with the AI image upscaler — on-device by default for both tools, with Cloud HD optional on Pro.

Frequently asked questions

Is my photo really never uploaded?
Not by default. The background remover runs on your device and nothing is uploaded — unless you are a Pro subscriber and switch on Cloud HD for a run. Then that one photo goes to our server for the heavier model, is processed in the United States, and is deleted when the run finishes, and in all cases within 24 hours. Cloud HD is off until you turn it on, the switch says so beside the run button, and the free path never changes.
Why is there a download the first time?
That is the AI model file. Choose Instant tier (250 KB, MediaPipe Selfie — great for people/portraits) or Better quality (44 MB, RMBG-1.4 — handles objects, animals, products). Either way it caches in your browser after the first load and the tool works offline after that.
How does the quality compare to remove.bg?

Does it work on a phone?
Yes, on any modern browser including iOS Safari 17.4+ and Android Chrome 113+. Processing is slower than on a laptop.
What is the free tier limit?
Free tier processes images up to 1080×1080 pixels and adds a small "minipx.com" watermark. Pro tier removes the watermark, supports up to 4096×4096 pixels, and unlocks the compose-on-background colour palette.
What image formats are supported?
Input: JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, AVIF. Output: PNG with transparent background, or composed on a solid colour you pick.
