Removing the background from an image is one of the most common image-editing tasks — for e-commerce listings, profile pictures, design assets, or just cleaning up a photo. MiniPx makes it free and private by running the segmentation model entirely in your browser. Your image is never uploaded.

The tool uses BiRefNet, a 2024 state-of-the-art salient object segmentation model. Unlike older U-Net based approaches, BiRefNet handles fine details like hair, fur, frizz, and translucent objects with markedly better edge quality. Output is a standard transparent PNG you can drop into Shopify, Etsy, LinkedIn, Figma, Canva, slide decks, or any design tool.

The first time you use it, your browser downloads the ~180 MB model file. After that it's cached and the tool works offline. Subsequent removals take 1-5 seconds depending on your device — WebGPU-enabled laptops (most 2022+) are fastest.

Is removing the background really free?
Yes. The free tier supports images up to 1080×1080 pixels and adds a small "minipx.com" watermark. There is no signup, no quota, no time limit. Pro tier ($4.99/mo or $79 lifetime) removes the watermark, supports up to 4096×4096 pixels, and unlocks the background-compose colour palette.
Does my image get uploaded anywhere?
No. The AI model (BiRefNet) runs in your browser via WebGPU. Your image data never leaves your device. Open DevTools Network tab and drop an image — you will see zero outbound image traffic.
What output format do I get?
A transparent PNG that you can use directly in design tools, listings, or slide decks. You can also compose the cutout onto a solid color background (white, black, brand color) before downloading — Pro feature.
How does it compare to remove.bg or Canva?
