Background Eraser — Free, Fast & Private

A background eraser does what the name says: erases the area around your subject and replaces it with transparency. MiniPx's eraser is AI-driven (BiRefNet model) and runs in your browser — no upload, no signup, no quota.

Unlike paintbrush-style erasers in Photoshop or similar editors, this one detects the subject automatically. Drop a photo, wait 1-5 seconds, get the transparent cutout. For images where automatic detection misses (very low-contrast subjects), the cloud-based remove.bg-style services may produce slightly different output — but for portraits, products, and most everyday photos, on-device wins on privacy and cost.

The interactive eraser lives at /background-remover/. If you want to keep the eraser output AND compose it onto a different color, the Pro tier exposes a color picker for white / black / cream / custom backgrounds.

How it works

  1. Open the eraser tool: Navigate to /background-remover/ — the AI background eraser.
  2. Drop the image: JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, AVIF supported.
  3. Wait for the AI: 1-5 seconds locally. No network calls — verify in DevTools.
  4. Save the transparent PNG: Use the output anywhere a PNG with transparency works.

Frequently asked questions

Is the background eraser free?
Yes. Free tier handles 1080p images with a small "minipx.com" watermark. Pro tier (from $4.99/mo) removes the watermark, supports 4K, and unlocks the background-compose colour palette.
Does it use my photos for training?
No. Your photos never leave your browser. There is no server-side processing or storage. We cannot access your images even if asked.
Can I erase backgrounds in bulk?
Not yet — the current background eraser processes one image at a time. Bulk background removal is on the v4.2 roadmap. For batch compression, the main MiniPx tool handles unlimited files on Pro.
How does it compare to a manual paintbrush eraser?
Automatic detection is faster for typical photos. Manual brushes win when you need pixel-perfect control over a low-contrast region or want to keep something the AI removed.
