Compress Images for Reddit Posts โ Free, Fast & Private
Reddit allows image uploads up to 20 MB, but most subreddits display images at much smaller sizes. A 4000ร3000 photo at 5 MB loads slowly on mobile and gets downvoted before anyone sees it. Compressing to 500 KB-1 MB gives the same visual quality at a fraction of the load time.
For screenshots (r/softwaregore, r/mildlyinfuriating, r/ProgrammerHumor): save as PNG if the screenshot contains text you need to be readable. For photos (r/pics, r/EarthPorn, r/itookapicture): use JPEG at 85% quality. For memes and simple graphics: PNG usually compresses well if the image has flat colours and sharp edges.
Reddit recompresses uploaded images through its own pipeline. Uploading an already-optimised image gives you more control over the final quality. If you upload a 10 MB image, Reddit compresses it aggressively and you lose quality. If you upload a 500 KB image at the right quality, Reddit\'s recompression has less impact.
Image dimensions matter too. Reddit displays images at a maximum of roughly 960px wide on desktop and 640px on mobile. Uploading a 4000px wide image means Reddit scales it down โ wasting bandwidth and potentially introducing scaling artefacts. Resize to 1920px wide maximum before uploading.
MiniPx processes your Reddit images entirely in your browser. Drop in your screenshots, memes, or photos, pick your format (JPEG or PNG), and compress to a reasonable size. Nothing is uploaded to any server โ your memes stay between you and Reddit.
