Convert AVIF to PNG — Free, Fast & Private

AVIF delivers impressive compression, but PNG remains the go-to format when you need lossless quality. Converting AVIF to PNG preserves every pixel without further compression artifacts — ideal for screenshots, graphics with sharp text, design assets, or any image you plan to edit further.

PNG also preserves transparency. If your AVIF image has an alpha channel (transparent areas), converting to PNG keeps that transparency intact. JPEG would flatten it to a solid background. This makes AVIF-to-PNG the right choice for logos, icons, UI elements, and layered graphics.

MiniPx handles the conversion client-side using the Canvas API. No server upload, no waiting. Your images stay on your device the entire time. This matters if you are working with client deliverables, proprietary designs, or personal photos you do not want on someone else's server.

When to choose PNG over JPG

Choose PNG when you need transparency, when the image contains text or sharp edges (screenshots, diagrams, UI mockups), when you plan to edit the image further, or when a platform specifically requires PNG format. Choose AVIF to JPG when file size matters more and you are dealing with photographs.

File size considerations

PNG files will be significantly larger than the original AVIF — that is the tradeoff for lossless quality. A 200KB AVIF photo might become 2-5MB as PNG. For web use where file size matters, consider keeping the AVIF format or converting to WebP instead.

Batch conversion

Convert multiple AVIF files to PNG at once. No file limits, no size caps. Download individually or grab all as a ZIP. For more on the AVIF format and where it fits, read our AVIF format explained guide.

Frequently asked questions

Does converting AVIF to PNG lose quality?
No. PNG uses lossless compression, so every pixel from the decoded AVIF image is preserved exactly. No further quality loss occurs during the conversion.
Will transparency be preserved?
Yes. If your AVIF file has transparent areas (alpha channel), the PNG output will preserve that transparency. This is a key advantage over converting to JPG, which does not support transparency.
Why is the PNG file so much bigger than the AVIF?
AVIF uses advanced lossy compression that discards data to achieve tiny file sizes. PNG uses lossless compression that keeps every pixel. The size increase is the expected cost of lossless quality.
Can I batch convert AVIF to PNG?
Yes. Drop as many AVIF files as you want into MiniPx and convert them all to PNG at once. Download individually or as a ZIP archive.
Should I convert to PNG or JPG?
Convert to PNG for design work, screenshots, transparency, and images with text. Convert to JPG for photographs where file size matters more than pixel-perfect quality. PNG files will be larger but lossless.
