Remove Noise from a Photo — Pro, on our server
Noise is physics, not a manufacturing defect. Light arrives as discrete photons, and how many land on a given pixel during an exposure varies randomly around an average — that variation is shot noise, and it exists in every camera ever built. Add the sensor’s own read noise, then multiply the whole lot by the gain that ISO 6400 applies, and you get the speckle you are looking at. Nothing in the file distinguishes a noisy pixel from a genuinely dark one, which is exactly why denoising is a judgement problem rather than an arithmetic one, and why the Cloud HD enhancer uses a model trained on real noisy photographs instead of a blur radius.
The trade is always noise against detail, and the only question is where you sit on it. Push suppression hard and pores, fabric weave and hair strands go with the speckle; push it gently and the picture keeps its grit. Our clean-up pass is tuned to hold its ground in the middle and then rebuild: it reconstructs plausible fine texture as it works, which is why denoised skin here does not acquire the waxy sheen of an aggressive smoothing filter. On a heavily noisy night shot the trade still bites, and the honest answer is that the result will be cleaner and slightly flatter than the original.
Noise and film grain are different problems with different right answers. A high-ISO phone photo carries random electronic speckle that carries no information. A scan of a film negative carries silver-halide structure that is genuinely part of the image and often part of the point, and the page on removing grain from a photo treats it as an aesthetic decision rather than damage. If your noise came with a dark scene, an orange cast and a slow shutter all at once, start instead with fixing a low-light photo, which handles the three together.
Feed it the cleanest copy, and know where it goes. If the original is RAW or HEIC, convert it on your own machine with the image converter and export at high quality — no upload is involved in that step, or in any of the compressors and croppers on this site. Cloud HD is the exception and says so: the photo is uploaded to our server for that run and deleted when the run finishes, and in all cases within 24 hours, processed in the United States on Cloudflare R2 storage and Modal GPUs, encrypted in transit, never used to train anything. The model in use — RestoreFormer++ today — is named on every result.
