Only need the signature under 100 KB, with no pixel rules? Compress image to 100 KB aims at that size alone; the tool on this page also checks the lower limit.
The JEE (Main) 2026 — Information Bulletin (NTA) (printed p. 9, November 2025) gives the signature one sentence: Signature file should be JPG/JPEG format (clearly legible) between 10 kb to 100 kb.
That is three requirements and no more: the format, a legibility test and a size band. It states no pixel size, no printed box, no ink colour and no scanner setting. Where this page goes beyond that sentence it says so.
Legibility is the only quality test
The two words in brackets matter more than they look. A signature squeezed to fit a small file can turn into a grey smear, and a smear is not “clearly legible” whatever its size. The band gives you room to avoid that: the ceiling is 10 times the floor. Aim above the floor and keep the strokes crisp, instead of chasing the smallest file the tool will produce.
Because nothing else is specified, the candidate decides the rest. Our advice, not a bulletin rule: sign with a dark pen on plain white paper at your usual size, photograph it flat in even light, and crop with a thin margin so the signature fills the frame.
The size band, counted both ways
A kilobyte is sometimes read as 1,000 bytes and sometimes as 1,024. The tool counts the ceiling the strict way, 1,00,000 bytes, and the floor the strict way, 10,240 bytes. A file that clears both clears whichever count the portal applies. Both ends bind: a tightly cropped pale signature can drop under the floor, and the tool tells you when it has.
The NEET (UG) signature, set by the same agency, carries the same band in the record, 10–100 KB, so one file can serve both applications. Check the NEET signature page before reusing it, in case the bulletins diverge.
The CUET signature has a band of its own, 10–50 KB, on the CUET signature page. Compare the two tables before reusing a file in either direction.
- Sign once on plain white paper.
- Photograph or scan it flat, then crop close to the ink.
- Drop it into the tool and look at the result at full size before you accept it.
- Upload the JPG in the signature field of the JEE (Main) application.
Common rejection reasons
The JEE (Main) 2026 notice lists no separate rejection causes for the signature beyond the specification above. Every cause the exam bodies do state is collected, with its page, on the exam rejection reasons page.
Photograph and signature are separate uploads
The photograph has its own band, 10–200 KB, and its own colour rule. Both are on the JEE (Main) photo page. For a general image under 100 KB with no JEE checks, the 100 KB compressor aims at that size alone.
The tool runs in your browser and the signature is not uploaded to MiniPx.
