Compress PNG to 50KB — Free, Fast & Private
50 kilobytes is a hard limit for a lossless format. It suits a logo, an icon, a signature on white or a simple screenshot, and it is a stretch for anything photographic. This page opens the compressor on PNG with the target already at 50 KB, keeps the output a PNG, and then shows on five real files what that cost.
The route the engine takes for PNG
The engine has no quality dial for PNG, so the target is met by other means, tried in a fixed order. A lossless encode comes first, and a file that fits there is returned with its colours untouched. If it does not fit, the palette is reduced in stages and the size is checked after each. If the smallest palette the engine will use is still over the limit, the pixel dimensions are reduced in steps and the colour stages run again. A file that still misses comes back as the smallest one produced, with its real size.
What fits in 50 KB — measured on this page
We dropped five real files on the compressor above and kept what it handed back. 2 of 5 came out under 50 KB.

Measured 2026-10-06 in Chromium 145.0.7632.6 with this page’s own settings. The photos are public-domain and CC0 files from Wikimedia Commons; the screenshot is our own. Sizes read as the tool shows them (1 KB = 1,024 bytes); the target itself is 50,000 bytes, which is under 50 KB on either reading.
What to expect at 50 KB
Graphics with flat colour tend to pass on the palette step alone and keep their dimensions. Photographs rarely do: the table shows the dimensions and colours given up by the photographic test files, and some may be reported as a miss. That is the honest result of asking a lossless format for a very small size. If the form accepts JPG, the JPEG page reaches the same limit with a gentler loss.
Choosing keep-colours in the tool's PNG settings forbids the palette step. You then keep every colour you had, and the tool reports a miss whenever the size cannot be met that way.
Decimal kilobytes
KB here is 1,000 bytes. A file under that is also under a portal that counts 1,024-byte kilobytes, so the decimal reading is the safe one for either kind of form.
