Only need the thumb impression under 50 KB, with no pixel rules? Compress image to 50 KB aims at that size alone; the tool on this page also checks the lower limit.
State Bank of India prints the same figures in the SBI PO 2026-27 — Detailed Advertisement CRPD/PO/2026-27/09 (Annexure-II): 20–50 KB, 240 × 240 pixels at 200 DPI. One file serves both applications, which is why this page covers both banks.
Why a thumb print is harder to compress than a photo
A fingerprint is fine detail: ridges a fraction of a millimetre apart. Compression removes fine detail first, so an over-squeezed print turns into a grey smudge long before a face would look damaged. The notices ask for a 20–50 KB file — a generous band for a 3 cm × 3 cm square — so there is no need to compress hard. Aim for the middle of the band, not the floor.
The suggested size, 240 × 240 pixels at 200 DPI, is the 3 cm × 3 cm square scanned at that setting. It is marked “preferred”, but the shape is the point: crop the scan to a square around the print so the tool does not have to fit a rectangle into a square box.
Taking an impression that survives the scan
- Use black or blue ink, on plain white paper — the notices name the colours, and a faint stamp-pad print loses the ridges.
- Press the left thumb once and lift straight up. Our advice, not a bank rule: if the first print smudges, take a fresh one on clean paper rather than pressing over it.
- Scan or photograph the sheet flat, in even light, then crop to a square with a little margin around the print.
- Drop it into the tool above, which keeps the square shape and checks both ends of the band.
An unclear impression is not a cosmetic problem. IBPS says: “In case the face in the photograph or signature or left thumb impression or handwritten declaration or certificate as mentioned in Clause J (ix) is unclear/ smudged, the candidate’s application form shall be rejected.” The same rule, and every other one the notices print, is collected on the exam rejection reasons page.
Not the same file as the medical entrance exams
Do not reuse this image for medical entrance forms. NEET (UG) asks for the fingers and thumbs of both hands, at 50–200 KB, and NEET-PG for a left thumb in a rectangular box, less than 80 KB. The photograph, signature and declaration for the bank forms are on the IBPS and SBI pages, and the declaration has its own page.
The tool runs in your browser and the image is not uploaded to MiniPx.
