Only need the signature under 20 KB, with no pixel rules? Compress image to 20 KB aims at that size alone; the tool on this page also checks the lower limit.

The TNPSC Advertisement No. 728, Notification No. 19/2025 — Combined Technical Services Examination (Interview Posts) II (pp. 15–16, §3.3–3.6, dated 22.12.2025 (examination 07–08.03.2026)) sets the signature in its application instructions, and the Group IV advertisement carries the same text. The sentence worth pasting into a search box is: The image should then be cropped to show only the box with the signature, of size 10 KB –20KB, and saved as “Signature.jpg” and uploaded. The record covers the notifications above; a later TNPSC notification may word it differently, so open the one you are applying under.

Crop to the box, not to the ink

Most signature guides tell you to trim to the strokes. TNPSC says otherwise: draw a box of 6.0 × 2.0 cm (230 × 75 pixels) on white paper and sign inside it, with a blue or black ink pen, and the image is then “cropped to show only the box with the signature”. The box is the picture. That means the box lines are visible in the file, and the signature sits inside them with its natural margin.

The notification also says to crop to the box only, and to save it as “Signature.jpg”. Rename the downloaded file before you upload it, since a portal that expects that name will not necessarily accept another one. That is our reading of the instruction, not a rule it states in so many words.

Two figures that do not agree

The notification describes the box as 6.0 cm × 2.0 cm, followed in brackets by a pixel figure, 230 × 75 pixels, and asks for a scan at 200 DPI. Worked through, 6.0 cm × 2.0 cm at 200 DPI is about 472 × 157 pixels, which is larger than the bracketed figure. The notification does not reconcile them and states no tolerance. The tool therefore checks the part that is a clear number, the size band and the format, and does not reject a crop for being a different pixel size. Keep the box shape and let the band decide.

The band, 10–20 KB, is narrow and has a floor. The tool counts the ceiling the strict way, 20,000 bytes, and the floor the strict way, 10,240 bytes. A dark signature on clean paper is a small file, so the floor is as likely to bite as the ceiling: if a crop comes out too light, use a larger canvas or a gentler setting.

  1. Draw the box on plain white paper and sign inside it with a blue or black pen.
  2. Scan or photograph the sheet flat, then crop to the box.
  3. Compress in the tool above, and read the exact size it shows.
  4. Save the result under the name the notification gives and upload it.

Common rejection reasons

A photograph or signature that is missing or unclear (applies to the photo and signature)

Failure to upload/upload clear images of the photograph and signature will result in the rejection of the online application after due process.

The photograph is a different crop

The photograph follows its own rules, 20–50 KB, with its own printed strip, on the TNPSC photo page. Do not reuse one file for the other. For an unrelated image that only needs to be under 20 KB, the 20 KB compressor aims at that size alone. Compare other commissions on the government exams hub.

How it works

  1. Draw the box: Mark a box of about 6.0 cm × 2.0 cm on plain white paper.
  2. Sign inside it: Use a blue or black ink pen, keeping the whole signature within the box.
  3. Crop to the box: Crop the scan to show only the box with the signature, as the notification says.
  4. Compress and rename: The tool targets 10–20 KB. Save the JPG under the name the notification gives, then upload it.

Frequently asked questions

10–20 KB, a box of 6.0 cm × 2.0 cm (230 × 75 pixels in the notification), scanned at 200 DPI, according to the TNPSC Advertisement No. 728, Notification No. 19/2025 — Combined Technical Services Examination (Interview Posts) II.
Do I crop TNPSC signatures to the ink or to the box?
To the box. The notification says: “The image should then be cropped to show only the box with the signature, of size 10 KB –20KB, and saved as “Signature.jpg” and uploaded.”
