Government Exam Photo Rejected? Common Reasons and How to Fix Them
Your photo got rejected during form submission. The error message is vague, the deadline is close, and you are not sure what went wrong. Here are the most common rejection reasons across UPSC, SSC, IBPS, and Railway exams — and exactly how to fix each one.
Reason 1: File size outside the allowed range
Most government forms specify both a minimum and maximum file size — for example, UPSC requires photos between 20 KB and 300 KB. If your photo is 2 MB (straight from your phone), it will be rejected. Compress it to the exact range using MiniPx — select the target size and it will hit the limit precisely.
Reason 2: Wrong dimensions (pixels or cm)
UPSC requires 3.5×4.5 cm or specific pixel dimensions. SSC requires 100×120 pixels for the signature. If your image dimensions do not match, the form rejects it. Use MiniPx resize tool to set exact pixel dimensions before compressing.
Reason 3: Wrong file format
Most forms accept only JPEG or JPG. If your photo is PNG, HEIC, or WebP, convert it to JPEG first. iPhone users: your photos may be in HEIC format by default — use MiniPx HEIC converter to switch to JPG.
Reason 4: Photo does not meet content requirements
Background must be white or light-coloured. Face must cover 75% of the frame. Both ears must be visible. Name and date should be printed below the photo for some exams. These are content issues — no tool can fix them. You need a new photo.
Quick fix workflow
Step 1: Check the exact requirements for your exam (size in KB, dimensions in pixels, format). Step 2: Open MiniPx. Step 3: Drop your photo, resize to exact dimensions. Step 4: Compress to target KB range. Step 5: Download and re-upload to the form.
