Light Bulb Emoji Favicon — Free, Fast & Private
The light bulb is the universal idea marker: tips, insights, hints, brainstorming. Its glowing bulb is a large convex shape with a strong outline, so the part that matters survives scaling even when the screw base does not. Its problem is ubiquity in one specific place, because help widgets and tooltip systems have claimed it.
A tips newsletter, an idea board, an e-learning platform, or an in-product hint system. It misleads on lighting and electrical retail, where visitors read the product rather than the metaphor and arrive expecting to buy bulbs. It also misleads slightly on support sites, because the help-widget convention has trained people to read a bulb as a hint bubble rather than as a brand mark.
Light Bulb in a crowded tab strip
The bulb is easy to reacquire because a bright yellow oval sitting on a dark stub is an unusual mass distribution. Its collisions are the sun and the star, both yellow radial shapes, though the bulb asymmetry — bright above, dark below — separates it from both at 16 pixels. That vertical asymmetry is the single most useful thing about it as an icon.
What light bulb looks like at 16 pixels
Beside a page title it reads as a bright oval on a small dark base, and both halves survive because they differ in value rather than in detail. The filament, which vendors draw as thin dark lines inside the glass, disappears entirely and costs nothing. Very few emoji here have a two-tone vertical structure this robust. The bulb is a big bright oval and reads clearly at 16 pixels. Only the threaded base blurs, and nothing important lives there.
Where vendors disagree about light bulb
Glow treatment is the split. Apple draws radiating light lines around the bulb; Noto and several others draw the bulb alone. The radiating designs fill more of the square and read brighter small, but they also blur into a fuzzy halo, so your platform decides between a crisp bulb and a glowing one. Base colour ranges from silver to brass.
Where the glyph itself comes from
Your light bulb icon is drawn on your device by your own colour emoji font, so it matches your platform rather than being a consistent cross-platform design. MiniPx ships no emoji artwork. Emoji are colour glyphs, so the .ico carries colour PNG payloads with alpha.
